Artist's Description

Growing up in the seventies, I was like
all the other girls, who could not wait to
go to the store to buy the next Harlequin
romance novels. Most of my allowance
went to those books and Archie comic
books (I was in love with Jughead).

Then one day at home, while passing my
younger brother in the hall I heard him yell
with such passion “You cannot pass. I am
a servant of the Secret Fire, wielder of the
flame of Anor. You cannot pass. The dark fire
will not avail you, flame of Udun. Go back to
the Shadow! You cannot pass.” My brother
said that line over and over again throughout
the day and every time I heard him, it gave
me wonderful chills. I asked him about it that
night at the dinner table. My dear brother was
so excited to tell us about the Lord of the Rings
novels. Our mom and I were so excited to start
reading it that we both went to the store the next
day and bought the series.

I was so amazed by the novel’s fantasylands
and I had never read books with such action.
Even my mom read and liked the books. Reading
the LOTR novels filled my head with more
excitement, than any movie had given me, one
exception of course, was the day Our Mom took
us to see the new movie “ Star Wars” (I was so excited watching the movie, that I think I had my
first organism. Ok this is a subject for another time)

During my late school years, college years and early adult years, my girlfriends would lovingly call me “ Miss Weird and Crazy” due to the Fantasy, Sci-Fi and Horror books I read. I always knew I was weird, but I never thought of myself as crazy until one day I looked up at my bedroom walls and noticed all of the Todd MacFarlane Spawn Toys I had hung on my walls. Years later, I finally grew up (some) and when we bought our home, I boxed up my toys and stored them in the garage (Ok I have a few displayed in our home office next to my desk, but only four). I want to give most of them to my nephews when they are older. I will still keep some (I have not grown up that much).

I am so bad that I cannot read a book or see a movie that is not filled with action, which is great for the men in my life. But this is not so good for my girlfriends, since we can never agree on what movie to see. I am lucky to have two cool younger sisters who also love action movies.

I know I am missing out on reading a lot of great non-action books and hopefully I will continue to grow and expand my reading horizons to include these books.

My current FAV authors are:

Octavia E. Butler, Scott Sigler, Clive Barker, Neil Gaiman, Brian Lumley, Frank Herbert, Terry Brooks, J.R.R. Tolkien, Stephen King, James Patterson, Dean Koontz and Raymond E. Feist.
