Artist's Description

Digital collage artwork “Odysseus and the Ballad of the Sirens” from alphadesigner’s Theogony cycle (Θεογονία), first published in 2006. The artwork depicts the Ancient Greek hero Odysseus listening to the song of the sirens – the mythological creatures who lured sailors with their enchanting songs to shipwreck on the rocky coast of their island and die. The central nude figure is the hero himself, depicted kneeling on solid ground with a ship’s wheel in the background, suggesting the destruction of his vessel. He is surrounded by flowers, insects, human bones and the siren themselves, depicted as futuristic flying speakers. The collage combines different media types such as photography, illustration, graphic design and 3D modelling in a single signature piece from alphadesigner’s Digital Baroque period.
