A beautiful portrait of Christine Dale captured on her very special day! Her wedding day.
This is Christine Dale captured on her wedding day a 24 x36 inch portrait completely hand painted in oil on linen canvas.
Christine wanted a special portrait to give to her parents, which they could hang in a prominent position in their living room, to remind them of her very special day.
Working from one of Christine’s wedding pictures, which are beautifully bound in a leather presentation album; I carefully drew a rough outline of the portrait which I was ready to start. Using my trusty tools a Daler Rowney pencil, a piece of linen canvas 36 inches square, a pair of reading glasses, a framed image of the completed work in my mind, I set about creating the blue print for the finished work.
One hundred and fifty hours later, including time from 2 till 5 am in the morning, the work started to appear in my minds eye.
I love those early morning sessions, birds sing, the sun comes up and all is well in the world. Quiet contemplation leads the mind into a calm free state, it’s almost impossible to describe the feeling.
I looked at the composition for some time before deciding to concentrate on bringing the eye to the bunch of flowers Christine holds, her right hand clutching her dress, was a necessary part of this composition.
I wanted the eye to bounce from one side of the painting to the other; having studied this painting I hope it has achieved this objective. If of course you feel it speaks another way, to you please email me, I would be very interested in your comments.
Green background to the work was added later after finishing the dress and flowers. Why green I hear you say, well the background in this original painting is actually grass Christine is stepping out of the limousine which took her to the church and after agonizing over whether to include background I decided to paint it green it throws the eye into the main subject area Christine’s face.
