Artist's Description

A copper plated door into one of the munition preparation bunkers at Newington Armory.
The Armory, on the banks of the Parramatta River in Sydney, is where the shells for warships were prepared and stored during WWII. All the munitions rooms are separated by distance, and surrounded by earthen bunkers as high as the walls, to lessen the chance of an explosion setting off other explosions.
Decommissioned inthe 1960s, the site has been cleared of ordinance (hopefully), and is now a wonderful area for picnics, walking, bike-riding, and even art shows. A great spot to spend a sunny day.
