Artist's Description

Based on a false-colour infra-red image from a Landsat satellite of the Kasai River, flowing through Bandundu Province, Democratic Republic of Congo.

This is painted in acrylic, with the paint being applied in thin glazes, to build up a glowing base. Then I have empoyed interference and metallic pigments, and real ochre from the Australian Outback to bring out the rich depth of colour.

A truly tactile piece, the red plains are finished with a matt glaze, whilst the"mountain ranges" shine through this. The river is reflective, as it almost has a mirror finish.

This is a large piece, at 1200 × 1200, painted on Belgian Linen.
