Down by the River

Down by the riverbank
I watch the lilies float by
Red wildflowers trailing it’s edge
This is where I cry

Listening to the water’s heartbeat
Singing to me of happier days
Life was so much simpler then
Somehow I let it slip away

The rush of the falls soothes me
White noise for the soul
Siren call of times long past
Onto her tune I hold

Down on the riverbank
Where you once held me in your arms
I come to escape for a little while
I come to remember who I am

Petals of the red wildflowers
Flutter down and travel along the river
Like teardrops falling in sympathy
For life interrupted, for what I’ve had to give

By the river, I rest my weary head
And let the tears fall free
Run my hand through her silky soul
This is where I weep
