Lilies

Tall slender stalks of emerald green
Bend and sway in their elegant dance
In rhythm with the warm summer wind
Stately and graceful, a royal dalliance

Silken petals of white, blue and gold
A rippling carpet of nature’s beauty
Shining under a golden sun
Bathed in celestial glory

Tiny birds sup ambrosial nectar
Cupped deep in heady hollows
Delicate wings flutter exultantly
Over the intoxicating aromas they followed

Proud lilies, goddesses of flora
Draped in velvet cloaks of colour
Standing gracefully and proud
Throughout the long, hot summer
