Artist's Description

The Monastery of Ostrog (Manastir Ostrog) is a monastery of the Serb Orthodox Church placed against an almost vertical background, high up in the large rock of Ostroška Greda, in Montenegro.
Metropolitan Vasilije (who was 1 of the 4 Montenegrin saints) founded it in 17th century, his relics are beeing kept in the Ostrog monastery and they are believed to posses healing powers. People of all religions and nations visit Ostrog and it is a major sanctuary and a favorite visiting place for Orthodox Christians.
The Ostrog monastery is built up out two churches. The most magnificent part of it is Gornji Ostrog (Upper Ostrog) – the so called Upper Church built in a cave, contructed in 1655 and decorated by wallpaintings made in the same period from the artist Radul.
