Artist's Description

A bank of fog rolls in over the giant tree fern forests on the upper slopes of Mount Kupwuriso, the third highest peak on Pohnpei Island, Federated States of Micronesia. Pohnpei’s high elevation cloud forests are some of the wettest places on earth (with annual rainfall of more than 400 inches) and support a myriad of botanical species, including large hardwoods belonging the elaeocarpus family, endemic clinostigma palms (kotop), giant tree ferns, and bird’s nest ferns. Everything on the upper slopes is covered with bryophytes and air plants. Alex Zuccarelli © 2012. All rights reserved.
