Artist's Description

The manor house was built in approximately 1550 with additions in the 1590s, in the 1630s and 1710; it has remained essentially unchanged since the 1710s.
Sir Henry Dryden the Antiquary has stamped his character on this room. He was a great reader of books and had a strong interest in surveying. The matching Globes, Earth and the Heavens date around 1789 some 15 years after James Cook circumnavigated New Zealand and charted most of the Eastern Coast of Australia. Interesting to note the map of Australia on the first Globe. Tasmania is shown as being attached to the mainland!
Canons Ashby has been the home of the Dryden family since its construction in the 16th century. Canon 50D 1/20 @ f4 ISO 1600
