The native hen chicks are now adults and the family of eight is still together although at one stage Poppa went off for a couple of weeks’ holiday. That’s what I hoped it was, anyway ….. I hoped that they are too big for the eagle to take but there’s always a danger from some straying dogs or from the little Tasmanian devils who are carnivores. He returned, to my great relief and happiness, and now we have all eight again.
This was taken at the pond when Ron was waiting for other birds to appear. The native hens follow him from the house to the pond and back again. They sit and stand close to him. This one was keeping an eye on the sky …… a pair of eagles had flown overhead earlier in the day.
