Alberto Agraso is an intuitive artist, illustrator, sculptor and international award-winning author who today calls Ottawa home. He has exhibited his artwork in Madrid, Cadiz, Grazalema (Spain) and Ottawa.

A native of Cadiz, Andalusia (southern Spain), Alberto set aside his innate creative abilities to follow the “responsible” path of working in the insurance industry. For many years, those gifts lay dormant until the unexpected death of his childhood friend revealed to him the importance of living an authentic life, and giving expression to what truly alights the heart.

That event also set him on the path of today’s modern mystics. As a simple pilgrim, he walked the 800-km Camino pilgrimage path in Spain and later, with his now-wife Mony Dojeiji, 5000 kilometres from Rome to Jerusalem on a journey for peace that lasted 13 months. With no plans, no marked path and very little money, every day became an exploration of the questions that all great seekers have asked: Who am I? Why am I here? What is the nature of this reality? How do I grow into the highest expression of who I am?

His quests for answers, and his curiosity about the questions, have inflamed his creativity and inspired his artwork. Each painting in this exhibit reveals some element of that quest for understanding.

“My journeys have taught me that the most important destination is inner,” states the artist. “There is no other. There is no separation. Our reality is an extension of our inner world, with all its beauty and drama, playing out in the magnificent theatre of our creations. I believe that, to change our reality, we must be willing to expand our understanding and connect with a higher consciousness.

In this sample collection of paintings and illustrations, the voice of that consciousness speaks to us. It celebrates and affirms the awakening of the Spirit, so that its Light, with all its power, wisdom and love, may pour forth in loving offering to our world. It also challenges us to seek in the deepest recesses of our own consciousness the changes we wish to see in our world.

“It is my sincere hope that the magic and love that inspires my creations inspire you in your personal quest, no matter where it may lead you.”
