A Christmas Remembered

Pine smell, wood burning
Christmas pudding in the oven
Silence cracked by a friendly fire
Silhouettes dancing on a wall

Outside snow feathers floating
Dressing the horses’ mane
Dark trees behind, protecting all
Clothed in white, long and slender

Sleighing, laughing, gazing up
Pinpoints of light too many to count
Dancing spirits alive in colours
Haunting the skies forever

Frost in the night, white on chins
Harness jingling, hooves beating
Two lines drawn in snow a journey shown
Forgotten soon, a generation lost

Across time, memories at night
To home I’ve come at last
Christmas past, candles lit
Forever remembered, Christmas kept.
