Artist's Description

The ‘dolmen’ Sem or puck Samson: Sem is a small village in Ariege, Pyrenees – France
In the Quaternary period, the various cooling provoked the installation of major glaciers in Vicdessos Valley. These are devices that modelèrent the U-shaped valley as we can see today. From the high mountain massifs of Montcalm and Bassiès, glaciers tore on the slopes of these hills pieces of gneiss and granites which were transported for kilometers. It is found especially in the foothills and hillocks of the valley and also to Shem Lapège (where they have the appearance of fake dolmens) between Vicdessos and Auzat on St. Vincent and rock atop the promontory occupied the ruined castle of Montreal de Sos.
This erratic Samson also carries the puck name. The legend attached to it said that the giant Samson was playing with one of his friends from the village of Orus to send huge rocks over the valley. On leaving, he forgot where one of his “pucks”.
