Artist's Description

The Jökulsárlón, Icelandic place name in French literally means “glacier lagoon”; is the best known and largest proglacial lakes in Iceland. It is south of the glacier Vatnajökull between the Vatnajökull National Park and the town of Höfn. Appeared between 1934 and 1935, its area is about 18 km2 currently. Its maximum depth of 260 meters gives it first place among the deepest lakes in the country. Travelers used to stack the stones to protect sites of elves, trolls and evil spirits.
