Artist's Description

The Rest and be thankful is the summit of the road between Loch Long and Long Fyne in Argyll, Scotland. The col has been a resting place for travellers for many years, and was referred to by Samuel Johnson during his travels with James Boswell (though Johnson and Scotland didn’t care for each other).

Nowadays, travellers tend to stop in the car park to have a bacon butty and enjoy the view, rather than rest their legs.

This photo was taken a little way down the road towards Arrochar, where a set of traffic lights were imposing single-file traffic due to a landslip earlier in the year. It was a bit of a quick snap (or three for the HDR) while I was stopped in the queue as the lights were changing (as you can see on the left).
