Realistic Indifference

Mind numbing pain
Drips from my brain
I’m going insane
With the continued blame
Feeding off emotion
As we try to break free
Of this stone-cold grasp
Lying, barely breathing
On this stone-cold floor
As we’re about to ignite
From these unprecedented fights
Trying to find right
In a world full of wrong
In a world where beauty is pain
Where “nothing ventured, nothing gained”
Where the greedy are rich
And a driven woman a bitch
Double standards & hope
Shooting up & dope
Selling sex for drugs
Is there no more time for hugs?
The world in which we are living
Has no reward for what we are giving
Shedding sweat, tears, and blood
For a country where nothing counts
One vote-
overturned by many
One motion-
blocked out by ten
One voice-
drowned out by millions
Fifty states and no where to go
Fifty states and no one who knows
The pain and trials
Of the unspoken truths
Living in cacoons
To avoid the pain
Trying to be the best
Player of this game
Residing in the confines
Of four close walls
Where its hard to breathe
With home lives corrupting and vile
Children running scared
Afraid to go home
Children running scared
Afraid to know
What momma does
For food & clothes & home
Pretending not to notice
The make-up covered scrapes
Repeatedly denying
The bruises with the lace
Black and blue ribbons
Crawl across her face
Her eyes like deserts
From the tears she cries
Late at night
Hiding from fate
Praying God will take her away
To a different place
Straight as the crow flies
And down the street
Kids are being left with nothing to eat
Being forced down paths with no light
Being led by the wrong hand
But still trying to find right
While the Red Steel
Caresses the pale, white plain of fat
And the little pills
Eat at their souls
While the drunken sugary juice
Drowns their sorrows
Travelling all the way through
To the bone-dry soul imprisoned within
Thier sweet release from hell
Allows the red to fade
To the mundane blacks and whites of life
Threatening to return
From the colorful array of emotions
Buried six feet deep
Underneath their wall
Built from tears and lies
In their undisturbed silence
They find the strength
To stand up and say
That this is “my life
My fight,
My right,
And to break toward the light
I need to fight off the sharper edges of the night”
Their desperate cries for attention
Go unheard in selfish ears
As the problems of their lives
Explode in our faces
Shown on a screen
Like it’s all make-believe
But we’re forced to see
To hear
To feel
For the kids lost
In this society
To never be found
Because we step on our own
To grab hold of our stars of success
In the scarlett red
Hidden within the velvety black
Persuading the clock
To stop and turn back
So we can reach
For the unattainable perfection
In our daily lives
Driven by the media
Who tell us
We will never be defined
We will never be divine
We will never find the perfection
Fo which we strive
But when will this change?
When will we grab the wheel
And take charge of OUR lives?
To make a difference
We need to fly
And not waver
When aiming towards the skies
Where even the fallen angels reside
Waiting for someone to try
And mend their broken wings
And rescue them
From the endless, painful nights
And guide them back to Earth
So they can shine in the city lights
Flying through the streets Retrieving the souls
Of the broken and damned
To save them from themselves
’Cause our world takes no prisoners
So we have to stand up
And fight for our rights
Or fail and leave the pain behind
So we can break free
Of that stone-cold grasp
And breathe freely
For ourselves, at last
