Visiting Grandma

As a child, we’d visit grandma’s house every Saturday afternoon. This meant we’d have to journey through the graveyard, a short cut, for sure, but also a requirement. Not only were flowers placed on the tombs of family and friends, but the litany of ancestors was gone through as if it were a method of sanity. Then grandma died and she found her final home in a grave, common to her and her pre-deceased husband, our grandfather.

Our Saturday walks became moody and more educational. With extra time, we could venture outside the Catholic section and watch what protestant families did.
