Oysters at Ballina

In the quiet water, by the East Ballina bridge, we’d search for rock oysters at low tide and hear how grandfather Temple used to feast when there were tons for the taking. He’d shuck and eat and shuck and eat till he’d had enough. For us there was just rubbish and a swim in shell grit backwash waves before fish and chips and lemonade and the long salty drive home to Casino.
