A Confession Written Backwards

A confession written backwards
Is like the truth you never told
Hidden deep behind that locket
In the drawer beneath the folds

And as the days go by and time slowly passes
You’re hopping it’ll rot away
That nothing ever happened
So every now and then
You dig deep down to check and see
To find to your dismay it’s still there
Taunting your conscience with great delight
That you were wrong when you knew what was right

So just hide it deeper in the folds
And close the drawer up tight
To leave it once again to rot away
And make everything seem right
So as the time slowly passes
Through all the long days and nights
You can live with yourself
Telling yourself you were in the right

But if you were so right
And you did nothing wrong
Why do you still check
Just to see if it’s gone?
And I you didn’t do a thing
And if there’s no regrets
Why do you hide it from the world
And wish it undone
