Built: 1919 Restored to: 1927

By the 1920s some of the more successful Ukrainian farmers in the region had replaced their traditional clay-plastered log homes with more elaborate North American-styled houses. One of the earliest was built for Mykhailo and Vaselina Hawreliak, who originated from the highlands of Bukovyna and immigrated with their parents to the district that became known as Shandro, Alberta. In 1928, this five-bedroom house was home to a family of 11 and the family’s hired man. (Source – The Ukrainian Heritage Village Guided Tour)
