The Ukrainian halls that were built throughout the rural countryside of east central Alberta were based on village halls in Galicia and Bukovyna. In the 1920s, the hall at Kiew, Alberta, provided a variety of events throughout the year such as meetings, concerts and plays, that were associated traditionally with these halls. Kiew hall remained an active social centre of its community until the Second World War. (Source – The Ukrainian Heritage Village Guided Tour)
