A Week Of Sundays

The dance of loneliness taps a slow
methodical rhythm on my heart…
The pat, pat, pat
of raindrops
on a leaf- strewn rooftop on an empty Sunday
Fallen helicopters
clogging the gutters of my heart
Stopping the flow of blood
Like the rain that collects
and pours forth
like a gushing waterfall
saturating my flesh
as I rush underneath…
Reaching for shelter
From him…
From me…
From thoughts of us.
From fear
Of loving him
Of vulnerability
Of him not loving me
Of insecurity
Pat, pat, pat… plops the rain
Thump, thump, thump beats my heart
You must start
The game
To trust again.
