Plastic Pearl

If I said nothing about it would it be noticed?
If noticed would the observer first study it
Making a decision in their own mind as to whether it was real
Or fake

And when they have reached their conclusion then seek information
First the compliment to draw my attention to their attention
And then the fishing

“My, that looks precious, how long have you had it dear?”

Then it is my turn to decide
What to tell them?
That it was handed down to me from my great grandmother
who’d run away with a Polynesian diver
Would that impress them, shock them,
make them feel their assessment was correct and
that they should have been a jeweler all along

What would I gain from it?
Mischief dances in my humorous quarter
“Be’are ye sins’ll find ye out!”
My Mum’s Gran’s staid voice rings in my ears
She really would disown me and then where would I be?

“I’ve had it about an hour; just picked it up at the “two bucks” shop on my way home. Nice hey?”

Artist's Description

Mischief is a trait that runs in my family
It needs to be dealt with every time I’m confronted
Sometimes it gets out before me but usually I have it under control
and keep it in it’s shining cage!
enjoy ~ adg :o)
