Oralist

When I’m alone I talk to myself
“Addressing the only intelligent person present!”

Funny that

The dog doesn’t think so
I doubt the dog thinks beyond wag pant run and what can amuse my mouth?
The floor beats with his sudden need to attack the forgotten enemy
I laugh and his happiness shows all at once
I swear the cat pulled a “You must be kidding!” face and turned away in disgust to lick
wash herself of us
her leg straight up in the air

But how else do I keep my creativity alive?
Painters paint
Cooks cook
I talk
aloud
on paper
virtually
in song
in anger
in confusion
in love

I’ve come to realise my speciality in life
And I practice it daily
Usually alone

Artist's Description

Where does my inspiration come from….?
From what I do best – talk!
And it changes content according to what I talk about
But this piece is about my oral talent
and it was the first poem I set out to write as a poet
But is it poetry?
Or is it just rhythmical prose?

“Addressing the only intelligent person present!” -
