Show me one who claims himself brave
be sure he is young enough not to vote
give him health and happiness and a future to crave
and most of all a heart full of hope

Now dress this young fellow in woollen khaki
with boots that are strapped up tight
shove a hat on his head, send him across the sea
to a place where he learns to fight

Then take from him his belief in humanity
that fundamental good
as he hears his mate scream that he can not see
just as he’s blown from where he stood

Stand back with the bosses and watch the game play
see them scurry through mud or dust
relax with your dinner at the end of the day
and sleep like those unfussed

When he finally comes home with his nightmares in tow
don’t look at the horror in his eyes
do not ask the boy why his hands shake so
hold him as he flinches from the skies

And never forget what he sacrificed
his dignity and his dreams
his happiness and peace and belief in what’s right
to that madness he survived it seemed

So when you complain of your Wii stuffing up
or “Why cant I drive NOW!”
remember the lads who gave it all up
and ask yourself could you do so and how

thank you

Artist's Description

Today the day to remember those who gave their all for our happiness
whether they were right or wrong to do so
whether we asked them to or not
they believed they had to and they faced the horror of war
and we have precious peace
