~ Run For Freedom! ~

Hide neath the low heavy bows of the trees
creep along the fence feel the roughness of the rail
lungs are heaving needing oxygen starved by fear
and the thick blessed mist coming in

Please let it be thick enough to cover me from sight
no wonder the night was so cold and dark
can I make the main road before I’m noticed gone
and they set the dogs on me with a din

Freedom is calling me I can taste it on my tongue
was that a whimper a shout a bark
I cant see anything but the trees and the fence
let me reach the road, for once let me win

I can hear them howling now one has got my scent
I have to chance the misty cover is enough
I hit the gravel running with every ounce of my strength
like I really am possessed by the devil within

I can hear the clopping of heavy hooves slowly down the road
Can I reach the freedom wagon? Join the freedom train?
Behind me in the wet grass the galloping yelping hounds
You never would expect it from your kin

The heads of the horses appear through the mist like ghosts
and the man driving them a bundle of Darkened cloak
I shout! I wave … I pray I plead … the near horse shies away
but the man smiles down at me “Join us, you have no sin.”
