~ Candle Light ~

I stand
I wait
should I go in?
The sun sets on this ordinary day
the rain clouds had made the sunlight grey
I have been gone so long
I look at the stones of this tiny old home
the same as where I’ve been
but these are so serene
safe and warm and welcoming
or is that the window clear and bright
letting in the light
the fragrance of the flowers rambling all round
warming up the ground
Would she remember me?
It’s been so long
has she been strong?
or has she moved on?
There is movement in the gloom and a taper comes into view
the candle is lighting her face looking out
I see the blankness of longing
a glint of hope from her heart in her eye
and that hope explodes into a smile
In a flash she has vanished
my own hope is dashed
til with a cry she is before me
launched into my arms
chasing away all qualms
I am home
