Hello to all my Scottish friends [that I have and that I may yet have!]

I am writing seeking help! Would anyone be able to take photos of a Scottish Village for me – I’d like to purchase a calendar of them for my mother!

My mother is 81 and going strong but her dream was to see the town her father came from – Gattonside near Melrose – But I doubt she ever will now!

I know this is a HUGE ask but would it be at all possible if anyone is next passing that way to take some pictures of the place for me to then buy & give my mother in a calendar of shots?

I feel responsible you see for her missing out on possibly her only chance at a trip there that my brother was going to take her on 2 years ago.

Before my gorgeous Skik came into my life had lived a life of drama and bad health. Selfish husbands and very little income and my last partner took my children from me hiding them from me for 18 months until my legals found them but I had a breast cancer scare and while waiting for diagnosis I stopped looking for my children canceling out my chances for residency of them and handing the conditions to my partner on a plate and he forced impossible court orders on me.
These restrict my time so I cannot work full time nor even casual hours in the profession I used to be in [hospitality] but at the same time the orders are structured insisting I must afford & facilitate all my children’s activities and provide an adequate house to accommodate my children on access.
No income creates rental issues and secure tenancies
So my brother used the money he’d saved to take mum OS to buy me a house to rent from him to secure my children’s access and prevent me from going to gaol from breech of court orders [my ex’s ultimate aim to which he has tried several attempts]

I am still hopeful that we can get her there soon – especially if I can get my writing published!
And as Skik and I will be retiring up country [in 8 years when I am free from the orders restrictions] we hope to soon have property with a small minor’s cabin for mum to holiday in or even come live with us in which is her other dream! (if we still have her with us by then)

Considering for the last 52 years [the last 35 as a single mother] she has been a continuous self sacrificing mother to me and my sister and 3 brothers and now her 10 grand children I feel it only just to try and fulfill her dreams!

If only I had thought of this earlier I could have given it to her for her birthday yesterday – but then I think for anyone over 80 every day is your birthday Christmas and mothers day all rolled into one!

I hope someone will be able to make a trip to Gattonside (& Melrose) and take some shots of the houses or shops or whatever or even just the main street & the country side around it.

My Grandfather’s name was Walter Middlemas Smart – Born there in the 1880s the middle one of nine children and he came out here to Australia in 1909 as a chauffeur to a rich important family. In his life he had been back several times but he could never afford his family to go too! He became a mechanic of some renown here and also important in the war efforts of both World Wars. His son Gerald did make some trips over both just before and after Grandpa’s death in 19771. I am Walter’s Daughter Lorna’s middle child and I remember my Grandpa with great affection.

If anyone is in that area and could take some photos for my mother I would be so very very grateful! I hope this is not too much of an imposition!
Thank you so much!
