Drovers Diary, The dog.

Drovers Diary………..The Dog

The boss went and got him, on the strength of his family traits
And right from the offset we were the best of mates,
He was bits of this and bits of that,
Nothing would surprise me, I would bet my trusty hat
I wouldn’t be at all surprised if he was partly cat.

He was always at the ready, parked in the back of the ute
And always took off to get whatever you,d happen to shoot
He couldn’t round up anything ,let alone the sheep
The old ram stared him down and off he would quietly creep!

In the shearing shed he was at his worst
Rolling in the sheep dags, you bet, he was the first.
One day the gun shearer got him, on his back he flipped
And off his bum a bald patch, he tracked. And shortly clipped

But he was me mate, together we would be found
Asleep on the verandah both of us in a mound
Time went by I,m sad to say, left a tear in my eye
Now he’s working in a bigger yard, up there in the sky.

But its not all bad news, as life usually never is
For I have a brand new mate, and he is full of fizz
This ones a little pup with a twinkle in his eye
And I think that we,ll be mates too
Like his daddy in the sky
