Artist's Description

There are a few species of coral tree that are native to Australia (genus Erythrina). They drop their leaves after our dry season (winter), then they have these eye-popping-red flowers for a short while, then grow leaves once more. Don’t ask me why.

They do not have these red flowers for long – I drove home for a camera, then 40 minutes back again to get this (and other) shots, as we have storms and rain forecast for a week and then the flowers might be gone.

There is a jacaranda in the background here – I think that is a native of South America somewhere.
