Brisbane City by night, heavy storm showers passing over all evening make for some dramatic skies as the city lights illuminate the rain drenched clouds.
I’m going to be honest here with the lightning bolt, I was taking a long f22 shot, and while the image was soaking, I saw a couple flashes in the sky. One of them was over the city. I checked the image on the preview, and noticed nothing. When I viewed the image at home full size, I noticed a faint lightning bolt. I enhanced the bolt for effect, due to having the wrong settings for capturing bolts. I did not expect to see lightning out of heavy rain clouds. Checking the lightning radar afterwards, they did produce quite a few strikes.
My luck had not been with me this day previous to this shot, as I drove 4 hours to Lamington National Park, and had planned to stay the weekend there, to explore the waterfalls in the area. After making the 3 hour soaking trek around Purlingbrook Falls, we decided to go home with our 20 leech bites, and several mozzie bites. On the news Sunday night, we hear they had record falls in the area, with over 300mm of rain falling on the Saturday night, and much of the tracks were flooded out.. I made the right call to go home, and I captured this shot as a bonus. I guess in the end, I was lucky!
