I am a photographer and designer originally from Reading, England but currently residing in Shropshire. I have studied fine art, photography, graphic design, product design and psychology at Reading college and school of art as well as design and Walford and north Shropshire college. I like to work in a range of mediums but often use black and white as I find it gives the piece more emotion and greater atmosphere whilst casting more striking shapes and patterns throughout the contrasting tones. Even though the majority of my work is black and white I still like to use vibrant colours sometimes. Especially when I feel it brings something new to the overall image.

For more about my inspirations and some of the thoughts behind my work please see my artists statement below which accompanies my surreal photography and digital art. Thank you.

If you have any feedback, thoughts or questions about any of my pieces please don’t hesitate to contact me. All the best, Adam

ARTIST’S STATEMENT

Just like dreams, art has the power to influence our thoughts, emotions and behaviours. Psychoanalysis is a method of studying the human mind and the motivations behind our behaviour based upon exploration of the unconscious. It’s most valuable source of material can be found within our dreams, reflecting both our inner and outer life. Contrary to Freuds belief, our dreams are not exclusively comprised of wish fulfilment fantasies, nor are they just surreal scenes randomly thrown together from memories. I believe dreams are a visual way of addressing the worries, problems and desires from everyday life, and by using symbols and metaphors can convey meaning which we can then interpret and use to help manage the major life changes, threats and problems we face throughout our lives. These dreams may seem as complex and irrational as we are, but once we understand the language we have a key to the unconscious. This in turn can motivate change through an understanding within ourselves.

In my work, I aim to capture thoughts and emotions surrounding my I own personal mental health issues and general view of the world by creating surreal dream like scenes built up using photomontage. My often atmospheric and illustrative pieces are based on symbolism and theories of dream interpretation often conveying hidden meaning, hopefully provoking emotion, deep thought and reflection within the viewer. My work is primarily self-expression inspired by my own personal thoughts and challenges but I hope it will also stimulate personal meaning and understanding in other people dealing with their own issues and be interpreted differently with the changing moods of life. My art is for anybody who wants to look beyond the obvious and feel the seasons of the unconscious mind.
