Candy-Coated Hell

Chainlink around your spirit
Can you feel it, female?

Let’s break free of this prison cell
This candy -coated hell
And constricting shell

Don’t you dare tell us to be
Someone we’re not
Someone weak
Someone sweet
Someone unstable on her feet
Unsure

Funny, my mind is clear
My opinions are there
Well thought out
Without a doubt
But by the time the thought passes through
The guilt-filter society’s machine
The squeeze out the mean
The passionate, emotional, don’t get too devotional to ideas machine
It’s hesitant words, stu-u-uttering language

Means nothing
A blank empty slate
And everybody’s grinning
Like we’re all fucking winning
But we’re not

Cuz nobody wins
When I can’t be me
You can’t be you
And we can’t be free

So I’m through
With socially-correct bullshit
I’ll have no more of it
Take my opinions and call me a bitch

See if I worry anymore
What you think of me
I’m a woman – intelligent and strong
And if you think I’m holding that back from the world for one more second
You’re wrong
