Artist's Description

Oil on Canvas – 30 × 60 in.

I’ve spent the majority of the last two months painting with two thoughts in mind:

1) explore the relationship of highly contrasting colors dispersed through different areas of the canvas

2) create areas of the canvas where a top layer highlights very small, pixel-like pieces of contrasting color underneath that are not immediately visible when viewing from a distance.

Both of these ideas are expressed in areas of this painting. It was really created to be viewed about 8 inches from the canvas. Doing so reveals thousands of little dots of color, like bright oranges and reds beneath bright blues.

I also like creating vivid areas where blue/black, blue/red and blue/orange create high areas of contrast.

Have some trepidation about posting this series of four (so far) that explore these two concepts as it may not convey so well when viewed from a browser. But… I’m interested in your feedback so figured it would be worth a try.

Most of the rest of the series is here: http://www.rayschloss.com , but will be posting the others to RB as well soon.

Hope you’re enjoying your day.

B-)
