A hoarse whisper into the sky

If you steal a glance toward heaven, and the moment is ripe,
the symphony of flight in the cool Florida autumn breeze,
may bestow upon your heart whilst you encounter as I have,
slim pure white feathered torsos, suspended aloft by near silent wings.

Nearly silent save a wisp of flutter, as if an arcing arrow or magical spear,
charcoal black stick legs trail behind in the wind,
elegantly elongated orange beaks, forming the leading edge,
not one, but scores, aligned in a perfect “V”.

How can this be, this masterpiece of creation,
each member spaced exact as to not hinder another?
Might you shout aloud at their passing, or in a hoarse whisper exclaim
“From where have you come? To where do you fly?”

Thus, the parade has passed as quickly as it appeared.
Azure twilight skies lit afire by glowing sun laying prone on the western horizon.
You too may hear the palms rustle amongst the towering tree tops,
And hope burns fiercely that this place never changes.

A hoarse whisper into the sky
