Heslington Hall and it’s gardens now form the central administration offices of the University of York. Originally the Topiary represented a chess board and chess pieces. Sadly with the passage of time the shapes have been lost.

It probably was Pat but I doubt if there is anyone old enough to remember.
It´s still very impressive but “human” in size…I mean the buildings. Thanks for sharing, lovely image!
