Artist's Description

Hathor – one of the most ancient and important of ancient Egyptian goddesses. From Pre-Dynastic times she was Patron of the home, mothers, miners, musicians, dancers and all manner of revellers, her names and titles are many. She was goddess of the Theban Necropolis and Lady of Turquoise.

Hathor is depicted here in her ancient “front on” bovine form with a stylised sistrum (her instrument) and a shrine bearing a rearing cobra – the protection of her father: the Supreme God Ra.
