Artist's Description

Hathor – one of the most ancient and important of ancient Egyptian goddesses. From Pre-Dynastic times she was Patron of the home, mothers, miners, musicians, dancers and all manner of revellers, her names and titles are many. She was goddess of the Theban Necropolis and Lady of Turquoise.

But Hathor is not the only important cow goddess in the ancient Egyptian Pantheon. She had an Upper Egyptian twin called Bat, famously depicted on the Narmer Palette, who, by the New Kingdom had merged with her. Bat having inward curving horns while Hathor’s curved outwards, these two very ancient goddesses perhaps take their form from 2 different species of cattle.

This design pays homage to both Hathor and Bat.
