I work in Canberra, the capital city of Australia, as a scientific illustrator and fine artist. And I write science fiction, mainly time travel…

I studied graphic design in the late 70s. In 1981 I started in traditional hospital-based medical illustration, using pen and ink and water colour. This was well before computers became commonplace in design. Then came a long stint in university-based medical video production (including two years at Stanford University in the early 80’s). During the mid-80’s I began using a very high end digital paint system (the Quantel Paintbox) for videographics. The Paintbox introduced me to the digitising pen, and so I started painting on a computer long before I ever used a computer mouse. My first film award was a CINE Golden Eagle in 1984. Dozens more followed. In 1997 I received a Graduate Diploma in Electronic Arts from the Australian National University.

My picture Qualia’s Jungle (featured here) just won the E. G. Harvey Award for Australian SF Art 2016.
