A Wild Week Of Weather! December 9 - December 14 2012

What a week it’s been here in Perth, Western Australia, with nearly a entire week of severe thunderstorms and heavy rain. I’ve been busy all week taking photos of the storms as they built up and moved over the city finding myself up at dawn every morning this week.…

We had a huge mix of different weather all rolled into one of the most interesting weeks of weather that I can remember in Perth! This included pretty much everything except for snow! LOL We had strong wind, hail, heavy rain, lots of different types of cloud including the very rare Mammatus and even more rare Lenticular Clouds! There was also very rare (For Perth) Sun Pillars which are caused by sunlight reflecting in ice crystals in the cloud (even more rare because this usually happens when it’s very cold!) and we had lots of

Smoke Haze Sunrise Over Perth - November 26 2011

These Photos were taken on Sunday November 26 2011.

Perth awoke to a smoky morning which was the result overnight winds pushing smoke from bushfires in the Margaret River region which have been burning over the last week.

There was a strong smell of smoke and a thick haze which resulted in a spectacular sunrise with some great colours just before sunrise, and a pink sun as it poked though the haze, and as it rised higher the sun turned orange and yellow Here are some of the photos:

Kelmscott/Roleystone Bushfire

Some photos taken during the Perth Black Sunday bushfire on Sunday February 6 2011. This was the fire in the hills around the Perth suburbs of Kelmscott and Roleystone, there was also another major fire in North East of Perth in the Swan Valley The Fires were believed to have been caused by power lines arcing together during very strong winds, and also from someone using a angle grinder. The Weather Bureau had issued a severe weather warning for strong winds, as well as a fire danger warning the night before. There were 72 homes destroyed by the fires making it one of the worst brushfires in WA history. There was also another minor fire in the Suburb of Ferndale and Cannington, but that didn’t do any damage to property, and was quickly contained.…

The Suburban Bird Plague

While the East coast of Australia has just seen some of the wettest weather on record in 2010, over here in Western Australia we recorded our second driest year on record. As a result we have been seeing allot more wildlife moving to feed in towns and in the metropolitan area. I’ve personally have seen many birds in my suburb that I usually only see up in the Perth hills, and in rural areas.…

This year, we’ve seen a large invasion of Little Corella’s that have been feeding off nuts and berries and anything else they can find in our neighbourhood.

Today I managed to get a few photos of some of the Little Corella’s that had come to feed on the nuts in the bushes at the front of my house, unfortunately it’s been overcast here in Perth today, so the light wasn’t that great. We had a really big

Night Landscape And Nature Photography Group Launced!

Me and my Co-host Jazzyjane have just launched the group Night Landscape And Nature Photography which is a group dedicated to landscape and nature photography.…

I’ve noticed that redbubble hasn’t got a group that focuses on this type style of photography, so I contacted jazzyjane who also co-hosts the Star Trail Photography Group with the idea of the new group.

We are looking for photographs that are taken between dawn and dusk (No sunrises/sunsets since there are plenty of other groups that cater to this type of photography).

Photos taken under moonlight, long exposure photography, available light photography, light painting are what we are looking for. B&W night landscape photos are also welcome.

There are plenty of landscape photos on redbubble that suits this style of photography, and

For Lovers Of Canon And Coffee.....

This showed up in the post today:

It’s a replica Canon 24-105 f/4 IS Coffee Cup! Now I can combine my love of Canon and Coffee! LOL

There is also a 70-200 f/4 Travel Mug but that one is a bit hard to find at the moment and was handed out to the press by Canon during the Winter Olympics. Canon has started to sell them in Canada, so they might be made available to the world wide market soon.

Perth Australia Day Skyworks 2010

I wanted to try something different this year, so I revisited one of the freeway overpasses that I had previously visited on another photo shoot.…

My original plan was to shoot alongside the river, but the tide had come in late in the afternoon, and there wasn’t anywhere good to stand since the water level had covered the beach and it was hard to get a clear shot of the city skyline so I decided to shoot from the overpass to take advantage of the traffic travelling along the freeway resulting in a combination of the fireworks and traffic trails.

I can’t believe the amount of stupidity I witnessed last night. I was taking photos from a freeway overpass over the Kwinana freeway and before the fireworks started, 4 men ran across the freeway (And crossing the train lines) and then back again,
