Sweet Dark Scent word art Facebook page

Hi everyone…

Yesterday I decided to create a new Facebook page for my word poetry and other writing called ‘Sweet Dark Scent’. I want to feel inspired to write, share my work and get it out there more and this is one way I thought I’d really enjoy. It also means I can share other (including RB) writers’ work with my FB network too.

Please have a look (its very new) and join if you’d like to. Here’s the link and here’s a description (within Facebook’s word limit).

Sweet Dark Scent is the word poetry of Robert Knapman. Created April 2013 this page highlights poetry from 2007 onwards after returning to Sydney and after many years in Adelaide, several in Germany and travelling in places of the heart, body and mind.

And here’s the description I would have added if I’d had a greater word limit.

The world through a rectangle

I read this today and LOLed – still smiling, so thought I’d share :)

I live my life in a ridiculous way, any photographer does. We are trying to make sense of the world through a rectangle.

Johny and Dave - the history

To my old, new and potential Red Bubble friends – especially those who have followed Johnny and Dave over the months and now years – here’s a bit of a Johnny and Dave explanation and context

Robert x

I’ve been described as a visual poet. I have an arts background in design, photography and performance. I am also a writer and a community health worker. I am impacted by homophobia and see its effect around me daily.

I created ‘Johnny and Dave’ in 2009. They have helped me re-think myself as an artist in Sydney. They have given me a voice, a gift which I endeavour to honour.
This project began with a Red Bubble challenge in 2009 and quickly became a journey. These photographs are probably the only record of this inner-city love story between two

I've been published! and Johnny and Dave have too

Great news. I’ve been published…online.

Johnny and Dave have caught the eye of “Verity La” and they love the J&D love story so much they have published some of it!

Verity La is an on-line creative arts journal, publishing short fiction and poetry, cultural comment, photomedia, and review. Bravery is essential in the Verity La neck of the woods, which means creative risk-taking, freedom, and – above all else – being no one but yourself.

Go to the site and know that Johnny and Dave will one day be a household name…um names. Love you all.

Robert xx

A Brave and Startling Truth

I was told about this poem tonight by a Kenyan friend in Sydney studying international humanitarian law…and so I came across the most extraordinary person.…

And after being motivated and working this week on this …in the spirit of sharing, hope and love.

Wear It Purple to support gay youth at risk

WEAR IT PURPLE this Friday 15 October to raise awareness and show your support for LGBT teens in crisis.

The new Wear it Purple campaign came about in response to the horrific news that five teenagers committed suicide in the US recently.

Directed and championed by students from schools and universities throughout New South Wales and wider Australia, the campaign highlights that the mental health crisis affecting our gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered young people is not something that we are willing to sit idly by through any longer.

On the 15th of October, everyone is encouraged to wear purple wrist bands or clothing to work, school, university or wherever they may be to raise awareness of this tragedy.

Let young people know that they ar

One of the greatest honours for an artist...

…is when a fellow and respected artist is inspired by your work. But more than this is when your work is incorporated into new art and meanings and which takes it to a new and exciting place…and then inspires you right back again.

Red Bubble artist and I think extraordinary human being Mr Daniel Rarela has done just this here

Hats off to you Daniel and thankyou. I’m so glad you are a part of this Red Bubble place.
