Artist's Description

Self explanatory, really. There are far worse people in the world than Charlie Sheen. Yes, he’s this and that and anything else you say he is, but he also isn’t blowing smoke up our butts by coming out and claiming he’s addicted to sex or window cleaner or any other bullshit like other Hollywoodites in order to save his career and public profile. In fact, Charlie’s more interesting now than he’s ever been – and I actually LIKE Charlie Sheen. It’s just crap like Two and a Half Men I can’t stand.

About the design: I’m certain that Shepard wouldn’t mind me appropriating his concept, now would he? I read a few tutorials for recreating this look in Illustrator and Photoshop, and in the end I said stuff it, I’m doing it all freehand in Photoshop without using effects/levels/posterization/etc. It gave me better control over the effect and I could paint and adjust the different layers/colours as I wished. With that in mind I think I’ve created a reasonably close approximation of the original OBAMA HOPE poster.

And that was the effect I was going for, not so much an obvious mocking, because as I said I like Charlie, and as stupid as it might sound I wanted it to be sort of ‘poignant’. Hmm, poignant is probably too strong a word, so let’s say ‘considered’ instead.

Yeah, considered is good, because I want you to look and go “Ah! I geddit! yeah..” but then to stop and consider “why isn’t it ’funnier or something, like more jokey?”. And that, dear reader, was the deliberate part. I’d drawn cocaine on his nose,a nd another version with his eyes all bugged out crazy, but I didn’t like them, so this is the version you get. Like it or lump it, I like it.
