Rising
This piece was inspired by a collage I created in my art journal. The woman faces away from the viewer and into the moon/mirror as if to both demonstrate that she is conforming to damaging beauty standards such as the corset she wears, while also denying the viewer a glimpse of her beauty. The eyes represent the gaze of others and the spider are evocative of fear, while the flowers blooming into color and floating in the air symbolize the woman's dreams of becoming her own woman.
