Chiropractor - definition
ok, so homeopathy is crazy as bat shit, but not chirporactic... right? Chiropractic is scientific isn't it? A tried and true medical treatment? Nope, not a bit of it. click here for what the scientific community has to say about chiropractic So why do we all know someone who's been to a chiropractor and loved it? Because science does appear to support that some forms of manipulation can indeed effectively treat back pain. Ok, so it sounds like I'm back-pedalling here doesn't it? Not at all. Here are the problems: 1) they are treating the symptom and not the condition. Show me someone who has been to a chiropractor and I can generally show you someone who is still going to a chiropractor. 2) they are not trained medical professionals. Manipulation should never be done by anyone other than a medical expert. It can be dangerous, and it can cause more damage if done incorrectly. 3) the parts of their job that they do well are the same things that a physiotherapist would do for you. A physiotherapist would do it better, and would use other methods (like exercise plans) to actually work on resolving the problem. Sounds like hard work? yep it is, so it's easier to just go get the pain treated and let them tell you to come back again next week, and the week after, etc. If chiropractors only claimed to be treating the pain, then it would almost be ok (except points 1 and 2 still would stand).. but they do claim to be treating the condition, along with every other condition for that matter. So these poor people suffering in pain are failing to seek other treatment which can actually provide long term benefit and improved quality of life. This upsets me.
