Eye Charmer
In my 'sans titre' series it was obvious that eye charmer Audrey Hepburn couldn't be missed so I did her cubistically too. After Brigitte Bardot (Sans Titre – 07-05-14) I knew I got the hang of it and I drew this one in one go and even made a second one that day: Sans Titre 2 – 09-05-14, depicting Marilyn Monroe. Rather than the latter I think Audrey always looked very natural, even though she was dressed up with impeccible taste, by make-up artists, dressers and hair stylists I would reckon. I saw it myself in the Audrey Hepburn exhibition at the Gemeentemuseum some time ago.
Cartoonesque
I wanted to do a celebrity in a more graphic, almost cartoonesqe way. The reference picture I used was perfect for that. In deviation of the photo I made the background darker. Even though the picture underligned her fragile and and subtle look, I knew that would not work for me. Thus, the hand, face and part of the neck are blocked-in light sections, surrounded by darker plains. Last but not least, I like the fact that the ressemblance is still hers whereas I abstracted a lot and I am quite surprized that it works especially in the hair. Love live plains!
