The history of pipe making dates back to times way before any of it was actually documented as a business but there are some locations where it became an established industry. Pipes were well known to be crafted for use in European monasteries and their designs then used for commercial purposes thereafter. The French town of Saint Claude has been carving pipes of all shapes and sizes at a commercial scale since the early 19th century.
