This painting was pure fun. I combined images I found of comets in all kinds of sources, from Augsburger Wunderzeichenbuch’s "Book of Miracles" to Jiri Dschitzky’s engraving of the Great Comet of 1577 seen over Prague to the Bayeux Tapestry’s depiction of Halley’s comet and so on. These "wild stars" remind me of the joy of discovery and how the unexpected and unpredictable in nature and in personal life is both wonderful and fearsome.
