Lee Sedol's Move 78 (Light)
AlphaGo versus Lee Sedol, or the Google DeepMind Challenge Match, was a five-game Go match between 18-time world champion Lee Sedol and the AI AlphaGo, played in Seoul, South Korea between 9 and 15 March 2016. AlphaGo won all but the fourth game. The match has been compared with the historic chess match between Deep Blue and Garry Kasparov in 1997 (Source: Wikipedia). Lee's 78th move in Game 4 has been acclaimed as a "divine move". In this historic match, Move 78 was an unexpected and creative game-changer, turning the tables at a time when commentators were already assuming another loss. AlphaGo's tactics deteriorated from this point onwards, leading to its eventual loss. It is a testament to Lee's focus, strength, intuition and perseverence to have seen such an opportunity, and to have taken full advantage of AlphaGo's subsequent confusion to turn the game around. This move, and therefore this match, goes down in history as yet another spectacular moment in the evolution of Go. It is also believed that this may have been the last win for humans against AI in the game of Go.
