A'ole TMT - Protect Mt. Mauna Kea
Native lands and sacred are continuously being ripped apart by what some may see as advancement in technology but in reality are only polluting our lands and natural resources. The mountain Mt. Mauna Kea in Hawaii is not only a sacred site that many go to to connect with their ancestors, but also a physical landmark that protects Hawaii's citizens from hurricanes, gives clean fresh water to the entire island naturally without cost, and makes up the natural landscape of the island. Due to the TMT telescope wanting to be built using nuclear energy to run, needing to be built within the mountain, it threatens to poison the hundreds of years of clean water resources of all those who are on the island that exist beneath the mountain with nuclear waste. With natural resources and environmental conservation being ignored by scientists, Natives and locals are calling to protect the Hawaiian sacred lands, culture, and natural resources. Though scientists see this as advancement in our understanding of the universe and a big economic win for the islands, desecration is not education, it is against native law, and is toxic for our environment and for its people and citizens. Instead of looking at the stars, we have life on our Earth that we need to take care of first.
