This past summer, I was walking my dog through the park when I saw something that intrigued me. At a distance, I spotted a fat little squirrel, rummaging around in a discarded Bojangles chicken wrapper.
I thought, whatever this squirrel finds must be a great and rare bounty. But what if we could do more for the squirrels, to give them a true boon? Before I knew what was happening, I heard the following words come out of my mouth:
"And to to the squirrel, a biscuit."
That idea and that imagery has been stewing in my mind ever since and I had to draw it to get it out. Look at the squirrel! How he pines for that delicious biscuit treat!
What a moment of true communion - even in imagination - with the animal kingdom. What a covenant is thus initiated between us; a bond for life! A friendship born of beneficence, echoing forth as an example to all peoples!
